One thing about loving travel is you’re always looking for the next destination. Far flung tropics? Towering fjords? Bustling bazaars and deserts? Count me in. We spend so much time scrolling through flight deals (that can’t just be me…) that it’s easy to miss what’s right under our noses! I figured it was high time to quit doing that…for me, that means getting familiar with things to do in Lansing, Michigan – my current home base!  Continue reading

Travel Impressions | Vero Beach is…

on March 17, 2018

Sometimes when you travel, you’re not interested in the top ten sights or the best restaurants or Doing Every Possible Thing. Yes, this even happens to travel bloggers 😉 I’ve found myself increasingly craving this kind of travel: travel where I can soak everything up, take a moment to breathe, and not worry about seeing all the sights. I think this is partially because of my health issues lately, that when I travel I want to have the most relaxing experience possible and not further aggravate any of my symptoms. Also, the two trips I’ve taken so far in 2018 (Florida & NYC) were to places I’ve been many times, so I don’t feel that pressure to see the top sights because, well, I already have. Continue reading

Hello, Reverse Culture Shock.

on April 19, 2017
I sit on the back porch with my Grandfather, drinking lemonade. It's the same porch from my childhood, but I'm different. And I have reverse culture shock.

I sit on the back porch with my Grandfather, drinking lemonade. The ice clinks in the same striped plastic cups I’ve drunk out of since I was five years old (and, presumably, the years before then, too, but those memories are less reliable, more a mish-mash of family lore). Continue reading

A Muggle’s Guide to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter

on April 5, 2017
The ULTIMATE guide to Harry Potter World!

**Note from Sarah: I’m super excited today to share with you a muggle’s guide to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Being a muggle who has never been to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter myself (and also still painfully coming to terms with the fact that I am, in fact, a muggle), I’ve asked one of my best friends, Julia (who has her own awesome fashion blog, and is actually the one who inspired me to start a blog in the first place) to help me out! I’ll let her take it away…  Continue reading

Vero Beach, Florida

on September 15, 2016

There are some places that mean everything – maybe not the most exotic or far flung destination, but the place you return to again and again.

For me that’s Vero Beach, Florida. I’ve visited my grandparents here almost every year of my life and even though it’s vacation, it still feels like coming home. Over the years we’ve racked up many a tradition that a Vero Beach trip is not complete without! I was lucky to spend a week here while home in the USA. Continue reading

A Day Up North: Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

on September 6, 2016

In Michigan, you can go anywhere, including over 100 miles south, and as long as it involves a lake we will still call it “up north.” And there are lots of lakes here.

So when we went to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore on a long day roadtrip, it was both literally and figuratively up north.  Continue reading

Less than 24 Hours in Door County, Wisconsin

on August 27, 2016
Your guide to 24 hours in Door County, Wisconsin - from where to stay, where to eat, and what to do! (You won't go hungry with this guide!)

Recently I spent less than 24 hours in Door County, Wisconsin, and it was a 24 hours full of scenic drives, wood fired pizza, pastel sunsets, and rainbow-covered wheat fields.

I’d only been to Wisconsin once before, and that was on a disastrous college visit in the depths of a long-ago winter. Other than that, my opinion of the Midwest state has predominantly been formed by a combination of a cheese-shaped eraser that my dad gave me post-business trip to Milwaukee, and my recent binge watching of the Netflix series Making a Murderer Continue reading

Yooper For a Week

on August 18, 2016

What can I say about Michigan’s upper peninsula?

It’s a place where they serve you with paper plates and toothy grins. They say “golly” and “gee” and “pop”  – and they’re not self conscious about any of that. Why should they be? They’ve never heard it any other way. Continue reading
