Hi friends, and welcome to the fourth installment of my ‘wellbeing habits lately’ series. By a happy accident, this has turned into a seasonal series. I didn’t set out to write it this way, but I think it’s fitting because personally, my wellbeing habits and needs do change along with the seasons. If you are new here, in this series, I share a few of my wellbeing habits, whether that’s a physical product or a new philosophy.
It feels weird to be doing my traditional monthly recap post whilst everywhere around me the internet is reflecting on the entirety of 2018. In truth, I haven’t taken much time to look back over the year as a whole. I’ve got my plane flight back home from NYC in a bit (I’m waiting in the airport as I write this), and I seem to do my best thinking at high altitudes. Maybe that will lead to some reflection. In the meantime, let’s take a little look back at 2018’s final month…
I’ve been looking forward to writing this post for months, y’all! There is something special about travel planning at the beginning of the year. A new year can be a beautiful blank slate of opportunity. As different travel plans flit through my mind, I’m not only imagining individual adventures, but also how they will piece together to create the year as a whole.
Well, the final trip of the year has been taken. I’m hanging up my 2018 traveling shoes (and pinching pennies for my 2019 travel-booking spree). As I look back on the travels I’ve taken this year, I wanted to reflect on them in a unique way. You’ve been reading along my blog so you don’t need a month by month recap of every trip! Casey from Land of Marvels had such a fun post on this very subject, so I’ve decided to create my own in that style. I’d love if you wrote your own ‘travel favorites’ post and commented your link below!
As this post is published, it is December 12. A normal day for most folks, apart from some heightened holiday cheer and gift-giving stress. Maybe you had to scrape ice and snow off the car windshield before work (Michigan), or maybe it’s drizzling outside your bedroom windows as the radiator hisses (England). For me, though, December 12 isn’t a normal December day. It will forever be the day that my visa expired, and I had to move away from my adopted home of England. It is the day I transitioned from being an ‘expat‘ to being a ‘repat.’
Thought I would smoosh my October and November monthly recaps together, because somehow October got away from me! By *somehow* I mean, I know exactly how. I had a life changing surgery at the beginning of October, and everything else kind of fell by the wayside. (Don’t worry, I’ll explain more below!). Looking back at these past two months, though, I can’t believe I’ve done as much as I have post-op! Here is a little recap for you all…
Wellness travel… a buzzword that has been floating around the internet and travel sphere this year, but what does it really mean? As I’ve struggled balancing my chronic illness with travel this year, I’ve been thinking a lot about what wellness travel means to me. So often you see wellness travel portrayed as exotic travel to fancy spas, couples massages on the beach, and other luxurious experiences that aren’t necessarily accessible to people like you and me. For me, wellness travel is less about these extravagant experiences, and more about being kind to myself.
Hey dudes! Can you believe September is gone? As this post is published, I am likely under general anaesthesia, away with the fairies in the hospital! I’ve had a rather last minute surgery scheduled to cap off a month of medical frustration (or maybe, to start a new month?). I chat a bit more about this in the ‘health’ section. But luckily, there were lots of fun things in September to complement my ongoing medical saga.
