Wedding Invitations & Details

When it came to choosing a color scheme and aesthetic for our wedding day, it was incredibly easy. I already had one in the back of my mind (bluish green, perhaps?) when I asked Dan what he wanted. He said “maybe blues and greens, like the colors of a day at the lake?”. Gorgeous. I knew I liked the color blue, but tying it all together with the inspiration of our Lake Michigan setting was what really pulled it all together.

With an engagement lasting well over two years (thanks to our round-the-world trip, AKA adventure of a lifetime) we had plenty of time to plan out the little details, drawing our color scheme into every aspect of the day.

I just love these photos from our photographer, Sarah from Lyra & Moth, of our invitations and other small details from the day. Mixed with the textures of the two lakeside cottages that Dan and I got ready in with our parents and wedding parties, it really reflects the mood of the day.

I could wax poetic about the stories behind these details: the delight of finding letterpress stationary, or picking vintage stamps off Etsy reflecting both Michigan and London. Or the stunning sea glass we used as place cards, that Dan’s mum calligraphied for us by hand. Or perhaps our signature scents that we spent ages sniffing out at Jo Malone, that now bring us instantly back to this day when we smell them.

Or how we had our rings handmade by a family jeweler near our flat in Wimbledon, and Dan had earrings custom made for me from the same batch of Montana sapphires in my wedding band.

And of course, how I agonized over finding semi-comfy wedding shoes, when a pair of limited edition blue-green watercolor heels dropped into my lap (quite literally, via my maid of honor Julia transporting them to London on her visit so I could wear them in pre-wedding).

They say the devil is in the details, but I’d disagree. Bringing all these small touches together was one of the sweetest parts of wedding planning, and looking back on these photos I can’t help but smile.
