Oceania

While it’s Australia that’s technically the continent here, Oceania is a more apt way to describe this region of the world when it comes to travelers. Oceania consists of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and many other island nations.

I actually first visited Australia when I was just three years old. My parents were visiting colleagues at a Great Barrier Reef research station on Lizard Island. My very earliest memories are from this island: running (waddling) through the sand, and feeding the Iguanas that showed up on the porch every day at dusk. And not as romantic a memory – this is also where I was potty trained, ha!

Personally, I dream of returning to Australia to visit that same research island. I’d also love to visit Melbourne, where one of my best childhood friends now calls home. And of course, as a Lord of the Rings Lover, I need to head to New Zealand.

who wouldn’t dream of traveling here?

My first international trip!

“Oceania is vast, Oceania is expanding, Oceania is hospitable and generous, Oceania is humanity rising from the depths of brine and regions of fire deeper still, Oceania is us. We are the sea, we are the ocean…”

So You’re Considering Traveling in Oceania?

I don’t have many Oceania blog posts yet, seeing as my last visit to the region was as a barely potty trained three year old! However, I have reached out to friends and family who have moved to the region over the years, to provide some amazing guest posts.

Check them out below, and stay tuned for my own Oceania travel resources when I eventually return (someday soon, I hope!).
