15 Best Lofoten Saunas (And How to Book Them)
Embrace Norwegian sauna culture with these Lofoten saunas! Saunas (and the accompanying sea dips) were one of my favorite parts of visiting the Lofoten Islands. I’ve done the research for you and hand-picked the 15 best saunas in Lofoten, and I’m sharing them below.

15 Best Lofoten Saunas
1. Skarungen
For the best private sauna in Lofoten, book Skarungen. For 1.5 hours, you will get a private sauna, jacuzzi, and cold sea dip. You can also add on drinks like prosecco or gin and tonics.
You don’t have to be an overnight guest to book the private spa, but I do recommend staying at Skarungen! This was one of my favorite accommodations, and the sauna and jacuzzi session was the perfect relaxing treat before we flew home from nearby Svolvaer the next day.

2. Reinefjorden Sjohus
The saunas at Reinefjorden Sjohus have arguably the best views of any sauna in Lofoten, and they’ve gone viral on social media several times for it.
How to book: Book online here — again, this one can sell out so I recommend reserving in advance.

3. Lofoten Beach Camp
Lofoten Beach Camp offers one of the best affordable, shared sauna experiences in the Lofoten islands. This popular campsite has two saunas with ocean views, and you don’t need to be an overnight guest to book.
It’s a short run across the beach to the sea, perfect for natural cold plunges throughout your sauna experience. I loved this sauna!

4. Eliassen Rorbuer Sauna
Eliassen Rorbuer is one of the most desirable places to stay on the Lofoten Islands, thanks to its iconic red fishermen’s cabins and scenic location in Hamnoy.
The sauna is available for guests and has some of the best views in Lofoten!

5. Hov Sauna
Hov sauna is a unique tunnel-shaped wood-fired sauna on the beach, near my favorite remote campsite in Lofoten.
After your sauna, eat at the delicious on-site restaurant, Laven. Or, do a midnight sun hike to Hov. If you’re a golfer, the famous Lofoten Links is just a short walk away, too.

6. Sandsletta Camping
A unique electric sauna at Sandsletta Camping, about 45 minutes north of Svolvaer. There’s an aurora themed ceiling decoration and beautiful views over the lake.

7. Svinoya
Lofoten’s first floating sauna! Svinoya is located in Svolvaer, so perfect for either the beginning or end of your Lofoten trip, if you’re flying out of the airport there.

8. LYST Lofoten
LYST Lofoten is also located in Svolvaer, centrally located next to the Thon Hotel.

9. Nusfjord Arctic Resort
Nusfjord Arctic Resort offers free sauna access to guests. This is one of the best resorts in Lofoten and located in the quaint fishing village of Nusfjord.

10. Hemmingodden Sauna
Sauna and ocean cold plunge at the Hemmingodden Lodge.

11. Catogarden Sauna
Located in Reine, the Catogarden Hotel offers an outdoor sauna that fits up to nine people (private or community sessions available). There’s also a jacuzzi available to book separately.

The luxurious Nyvagar Rorbuhotell offers a spa complex including sauna, hot tub, and sea bathing. It’s available for both overnight guests and non-residents (who will pay an extra 100 NOK fee).

13. Hattvika Lodge
Located in Ballstad, the luxurious Hattvika Lodge has an on-site sauna on its docks, perfect for jumping into the sea for a natural cold plunge. The sauna is available for overnight guests only.

14. Unstad Arctic Surf
Unstad Arctic Surf is famous for its epic cinnamon buns and cold sea surfing. Guests have access to a traditional wood-fired sauna on the beach, and a luxurious jacuzzi.

15. Lydersen Rorbuer Fjord Sauna
An affordable barrel sauna, located near the iconic Ryten and Kvalvika Beach hike.
You can stay at the Lydersen Rorbuer Village and Hostel (a rare budget friendly option!) but you don’t have to be a hotel guest to book the sauna.

Tips for Using Saunas in Lofoten
Most saunas in Lofoten don’t offer complimentary towels. Check about this before you go, and consider bringing the following items:
- 1-2 towels per person (one to sit on, one to dry off with)
- Swimsuit
- Travel lock
- Water
If you haven’t been to many saunas in Lofoten (or Norway in general) before, then here are some quick tips:
- Book in advance if you can. Desirable time slots will sell out at many of the saunas above.
- Sit on a towel in the sauna. This is considered polite and good etiquette.
- Dare to cold plunge! This is part of the authentic Norwegian sauna experience. I know it can be a bit intimidating but you won’t regret it.
- Check about locker rooms. Some saunas have shared locker rooms for both genders, so you may want to arrive already wearing your swimsuit if you’re not comfortable changing in this environment.
Limited Time? My Tips on Choosing Saunas in Lofoten
You probably won’t have time to visit more than a few of the above Lofoten saunas (unless you live in Lofoten and you’re making it a personal mission to visit every sauna… lucky you!).
I would recommend booking a couple sauna sessions in advance.
The private sauna and jacuzzi experience at Skarungen is my #1 recommendation and was a standout from my time in Lofoten. You don’t have to be a hotel guest to book this experience.
On that note, I also recommend booking at least one accommodation during your trip with sauna access — even better if it’s an exclusive sauna for hotel guests, with access any time! Nusfjord Arctic Resort stands out for its free sauna access for guests.
Last but not least, every trip to Lofoten could benefit from a super authentic, low-key, oceanfront sauna session. The beachside barrel sauna at Hov Camping and the community sauna at Lofoten Beach Camp are my favorite picks for that!
