May 2016 | Recap

Bye bye, May! Where did you go? I think I ask this at the end of every month. May in particular has just sped by, though. Here’s what I was up to this month…

May Adventured Like…

  • I was very lucky to have three of my best friends from Michigan travel all the way to England and see me!! We spent a day hiking in Cornwall and eating all we could. Sydney came back the next weekend, and after some shenanigans in Plymouth we headed to London for the weekend where we saw Taming of the Shrew at The Globe and got in some good wandering and eating!
  • I went to Looe and Polperro for the first time! Only 40 minutes from Plymouth, it’s a gorgeous drive and cutesy town.
  • I spent a very dreary and wet bank holiday weekend adventuring in Dartmoor and The Monkey Sanctuary!
  • I had some wonderful hikes, not just with my friends in Cornwall, but also to Burrator Reservoir in Devon!

May Tasted Like… (all Gluten Free!)

  • Sydney and I managed to wait in line (or “queue”) for Breakfast Club in London…seriously, I’ve been trying to get in here for two years! It was incredible…we both had spicy Mexican style breakfasts. Although they don’t have gluten free bread they were pretty knowledgeable and able to substitute potatoes. I’m still full!
  • Oh my gosh I am in love with The Stable. I think I went twice this month, which as I’m trying my best to cut down on spending, is a big deal! Right on the harbor, with pizzas to die for and even CIDER FLIGHTS!! I went with my friends when they visited, and apart from Suzy Wu’s cider (which smelled alarmingly like cat pee) we fell in love.
  • I had to introduce my American friends to the glory that is cream tea! We had an amazing afternoon at The Dutton overlooking the sea and slathering our scones in clotted cream. Lydia even tested out her own scone recipe back in Chicago…but it doesn’t compare as clotted cream is illegal in the US!
  • Very much in love with M&S’s gluten free line!

May Mantras…

I can’t wait to share my next adventure with you all… Norway! (And of course class…). Stay tuned, and I hope everyone’s June starts out happily and healthily!
