Less Scrolling, More Traveling with JORD Watches

When JORD watches reached out to me for a collaboration, my YES came not from the watch itself (although look at it, it’s gorgeous), but because I suffer from a certain affliction…. the Scrolling Monster.

Hi, my name is Sarah, and I’m addicted to scrolling.

guilty as charged :O

Let me explain. Recently, as I lay in bed with my hair wrapped in a towel, mindlessly scrolling through Skyscanner for no apparent reason, it occurred to me how much “extra” time I’d have if I just put my phone down. What would I do with those extra hours? Travel, of course. Lay in the sun. Feel the sea breeze. Finish a book!

But how is JORD watches helping me beat the scrolling monster and get those hours back?

Here’s my theory: iPhones are the millennial pocket watch. But instead of a quick glance to the wrist when we want the time, iPhones suck us into their quicksand of memes and stress-inducing notifications.

And for us travelers who are constantly scrolling through potential destinations, flight deals, and hotels… the scrolling can get exhausting! Enter… JORD watches.

When JORD offered to send me a wooden watch to review, I (undoubtedly lying in my towel, scrolling) had a snoop through their website. I discovered their mission statement:

The value of a watch is not in being able to tell how much time has passed, but in being aware of the need to make that time count. Moments are bigger than minutes and your watch should tell more than time.

UM, YES.  I need more than time. I need to start making my time count.

Well, since wearing my gorgeous wooden watch from JORD watches, I’ve noticed a difference. I pick up my phone less; I’m more in the moment.

On Monday, I spent the afternoon today lying on the stony beach with some friends by a sea pool. In this gorgeous and heady heat wave, I sprawled out on my (v British) beach towel. I pulled out the book I’ve been trying to finish for two months (that scrolling has been preventing me from finishing!). I dog-spotted, like any good British beach-goer. And… I didn’t look at my phone once.

Thanks to JORD watches, not only do I know what time it is, but I’m more mindful. I feel… peaceful. For the first time in a loooong time. Who knew a watch could do all that?!

I’ve gotten lots of comments on the watch – it fits my style, which is simple, casual, and comfy-elegant (if I do say so myself). And even though I was skeptical of wearing a wooden watch to start with, I have to say it feels right. It’s lightweight, smooth, and the natural wood makes me feel grounded. As a traveler with a hectic life and a scrolling problem, some grounding is just what I needed.

Now that you’ve heard my spiel, I have something for you!

I’m partnering with JORD Watches for a GIVEAWAY!

One person will win a $100 gift card! And that’s not it… EVERY ONE who enters is guaranteed a $25 gift card even if you don’t win. I mean, literally all you need to do is enter the giveaway and you’ve got $25 to spend! I was pretty floored by that, but I guess that’s how JORD watches roll. You can enter by clicking here or through the link on my instagram.

The giveaway ends July 16th at 11:59pm. After that, your giveaway codes will expire September 30th. Get entering!

I’m interested to know… do you think scrolling gets in the way of your traveling? Of your life? What do you do to handle it? Would you ever get a watch, like me, to beat the scrolling monster?

Sarah xx

Pin it for later…

P. S. It comes in this gorgeous wooden box (with a secret compartment!! Yay!!). You can shop my watch here – it’s part of the Frankie series, zebrawood and navy.

I received this watch complimentarily from JORD in exchange for an honest review. Of course, all opinions are my own and I would not endorse anything on my blog that I did not truly love!

  1. That watch is beautiful, it’s the perfect color combo to mix with every outfit. P.S. I would totally read that book you have not even knowing what it’s about because it has a wine glass on it lol

    1. Yes!! There are lots of color options but I definitely loved the navy face the most. Hahah and yes… it’s really good! Not as lighthearted as you’d expect a book with wine on the cover to be, though. It’s Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler, defo recommend.

  2. The watch is gorgeous Sarah! I love that it’s wooden. Too bad I don’t wear watches. But ugh I know what you mean about wasting HOURS on the phone. I really need to stop doing that too, because even as I’m doing it, I’m silently yelling at myself of how much time I’m wasting when I could be doing something fun instead!

    1. Yesss the worst part about it is how aware I am of my problem while it’s happening but I just keep scrolling hahah. And I totally get you – I’m not much of a watch wearer either (I go through phases) but I think this watch has converted me, I don’t want to take it off!

  3. I absolutely agree with this!! I’m on my phone way way too much and I dread to think how much time I’ve wasted unecessarily on it or on it scrolling through instagram or twitter when I went on it for a completely different reason! They’re far too distracting and addictive – and I actually agree that having a watch makes me look at my phone less, therefore less distraction/temptation to unlock and start scrolling! Excellent point made – and excellent giveaway – what a lovely watch!!

  4. Have definitely been scrolling through my social media feeds, and then realized how way too much time had passed by. Slowly but surely learning to put my phone down and be in the moment. Nothing happening on it (usually) that can’t wait. Also great watch! Love the wooden look.

    1. Yes, it’s definitely not an overnight process, but gradually increasing awareness each time I have a “scrolling binge” ahha. Thanks – it’s so comfy, I never really considered a wooden watch before but now I won’t go back! Hope you get a chance to enter the giveaway 🙂

  5. I LOVE their mission statement, and totally agree with your reasoning for wearing a watch. I am absolutely 100% guilty of getting sucked into scrolling. I have even found myself scrolling on my phone WHILE I’m traveling…like, I’m sitting in a cafe in a gorgeous foreign country, but hey there’s WiFi, so why not check Insta instead? Ughhhhh

    1. Yes I was so surprised when I read it – it’s perfect for travelers isn’t it!! Exactly it’s a bit pathetic isn’t it Ahhhh! When you think of how much wasted time traveling! Hope you get a chance to enter the giveaway 🙂

  6. I love the design of the watch (and packaging) and am totally guilty of wasting time online as well! Some days I feel like I haven’t done anything except spent time in front of a screen…

  7. Haha. I so relate to getting sucked into the vortex of my phone. Happens to me all the time. And this watch looks neat. Had no idea they made wood watches but like the look!

    1. yuck yes, the social media vortex!! I had no idea they made wooden watches either until I heard of JORD. And tbh I didn’t know if I liked it at first but I actually LOVE it! So comfy and unique 🙂 Hope you got a chance to enter the giveaway!

  8. Gosh, scrolling is the worst! I once heard on a podcast that Aziz Ansari was featured on and he asked the question of if we would like to read all the stuff we read on Facebook in a book?
And of course the answer is no because it’s mostly people we don’t talk to, or topics that don’t particularly interest us!
I think we can say that about much of the internet and after hearing him say that it made me cut down on the scrolling as it really made sense! So I’ve been trying to read more this year, which has worked so far 🙂
    p.s love the watch 😉

  9. I never thought about iPhones in that way, but it’s so right! It can be so easy to get caught up in looking at something else when all you originally wanted was to look at the time. I love JORD watches, and this one is so pretty!

  10. Gorgeous watch! I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts on durability after a few weeks in active use.

  11. Wow I really really love this watch! It’s gorgeous! My friend has a watch company and he actually has a similar mission statement! I realized that I always look at my phone for time and get sucked in. It’s a good idea to try to get back to the habit of looking at my watch 😀
