🇸🇬 GLUTEN FREE SINGAPORE 🇸🇬

If you’ve been following my stories then you know I just spent the last few days in Singapore, the first stop on our next 3 months of travel in SE Asia!

Singapore is both easy and not-at-all easy. The local cuisine is NOT celiac-friendly. Cheap hawker stalls are out 😭☹️ However there are some amazing 💯 gluten free restaurants to help make up for it (just plan your budget accordingly 🥵).

Some of my fave spots:

1. @the_wholekitchen 💯 GF cafe with yummy pastries and breakfast!

2. Soup Spoon - cheap and casual soup chain, labels GF on menu and many soups thickened with rice flour

3. @tiannsbakery 💯 GF cafe with desserts, waffles, and actual Asian style lunch and dinners (Korean fried chicken FTW!!!)

4. Entre nous creperie- very celiac friendly, they have gluten free buckwheat crepes and a separate griddle.

5. iJooz - 💯 GF because it’s 💯 oranges 😂 orange juice vending machines around the city!!

6. Caveman 💯 GF fast casual paleo restaurant in a MRT station. They used to have beer on the menu but I chatted with the owner and it’s now back to being fully GF!

Honorable mentions to @marksandspencerfoodpr (UK grocery chain with lots of gluten free bread and other products) and Cold Storage (grocery store with GF soy sauce!).

@thebutcherswifesg is another 💯 GF restaurant but I didn’t have time to try it out on this trip 😭 I’ll be back in Singapore in August though so expect more info then!!

Finally, shout out to @celiacsarahexplores who got me all excited for GF Singapore with her reels, and @internationalglutenfree who has a fab gluten free Singapore guide that I bought before our trip. Highly recommend it!

Today, May 6, marks ONE WHOLE YEAR of traveling fu

Today, May 6, marks ONE WHOLE YEAR of traveling full time 🥳✈️

On this day last year I finished my last shift as an occupational therapist, packed up my apartment into my 10-year-old car, and drove to San Francisco where I met @danrkellaway to begin our year of travel ❤️

Among other adventures this past year, we drove across the USA stopping at 5 national parks, got engaged in Oregon, then spent 10 months traveling by land/sea from Peru all the way up to Mexico.

It was definitely a leap of faith but one of the best choices I’ve ever made to quit my healthcare job and travel this way.

Aaaaaand it’s not quite over yet 🤭

Year 2 starts today!! I’m typing this at the Detroit Airport… any guesses where I’m off to next?!

Semuc Champey, Guatemala ✨

It’s quiiiiite a journey to these remote natural pools hidden in the Guatemala jungle!!

Expect a 6-10 hour shuttle drive from anywhere else you might be in Guatemala to Lanquin, the closest town.

Then, Q25/~$3 to jump on the back of a pick up truck (yes really) for the final 10km drive… which takes 1 hour due to the incredibly rocky, bumpy, steep road.

We’ve been traveling in Latin America for 8 months and had some preeeetty sketch roads but yeah, this one is really as bad as people tell you 😅

At Semuc Champey a lot of people take a tour that includes the lookout hike, swimming, a candlelight cave tour, and tubing.

However we opted to visit independently as we weren’t interested in the cave, and were feeling burnt out on the go-go-go of group tours.

We arrived before the crowds to hike the mirador, then spent ample time jumping, diving, swimming, and playing in the pools.

For a place that’s such a chaotic journey to reach, there are quite a few tourists here. However I was pleasantly surprised that it still feels low key, not “instagrammy”, and full of people genuinely having fun and enjoying nature.

So is Semuc Champey worth it? Yes, I think so! Would you visit?

Would you go swimming in Lake Atitlan in Guatemala? 🤔 🇬🇹

This an extremely deep lake surrounded by 3 volcanoes and considered one of the most beautiful in the world.

However, it also has a big pollution problem 🗑️ There’s a lot of trash around the lake, as well as issues with untreated waste water filtering into it.

However, you can still swim in it.. you just have to be careful where!

@guatesup took us to a stunning clean spot near Santa Catarina Palapo for swimming and paddle boarding (more on the paddle boarding later!).

It was truly a dream come true and I’ll say it - top 5 travel experiences in the last 6 months in Latin America.

Now knowing all that, would you swim here??
