Blog Changes & Liebster Award!

on November 23, 2016

Hi friends! I’ve really enjoyed writing on here the last few months. I’ve never before been so consistent with a blog OR journal, and it feels great. But there are some changes coming this way!

Did you notice this website has been down intermittently over the last month, and then for about 5 straight days last week? I’ve spent a lot of time cozying up to tech support. I’m considering a big hosting change (away from Bluehost). Any suggestions?

I’m planning on changing the blog name in the New Year. I have a few ideas – but not quite ready to spill. I want it to be a bit more anonymous – not in terms of my writing but in terms of my personal details. I don’t like that people can google me (or my family) and find this site. So I’m hoping you can do me a favor. What do you like in a blog name? What are your favorite blog names?

Those are my two main pieces of news. Let me know if you have any suggestions or advice as a reader! What are your favorite styles of posts? What do you look for in a blog you come back to over and over?

Now onto the LIEBSTER AWARD! Thank you so much to Nadine from Le Long Weekend for nominating me for this lil award. The Liebster Award is an award passed between bloggers. Nadine from Le Long Weekend gave me some questions (all blog-focused!) which I’ve answered below, along with my own nominees and my 11 questions for them.

1. How did you come up with your blog name?

When I started this blog I didn’t want to pigeonhole myself with a genre-specific name… So I was super creative and just used my own name.

2. How long have you been blogging?

I’ve had this blog for a little over a year, however I wasn’t a consistent poster until probably 5 months ago.

3. What inspired you to start a travel blog?

A few things: 1) my college best friend has a fashion blog and she was having so much fun with it, I wanted to try it out too. 2) I switched careers and wanted to keep my love of English/reading/writing alive. 3) I moved to a foreign country and wanted a format I could update close family and friends on, that wasn’t Facebook.

4. What are your goals for your blog?

My goals are changing a bit…I seem to be shifting toward more personal, reflective writing. I’d love to start incorporating wellness and poetry more as well. In the end, my goal is to put something out in the world that’s genuine, and not cringe-worthy if someone else reads it aloud to me.

5. What one piece of advice would you pass on to a new blogger?

Make a Bloglovin‘ account and meet other bloggers! This totally transformed the way I blog – it’s so much more fun with a community. I know my words aren’t just being sent off into the void when I hit publish!

6. What other work do you do/did you do before blogging?

I’m a perpetual student. I used to study English and now I’m doing a Masters in a healthcare profession. I used to work for a top international literary magazine but now I work odd jobs as a university writing mentor, yoga teacher, and dog sitter! Blogging is defo not my full time gig.

7. Where are you from?

Michigan, USA. And if we were together in person, I’d be pointing to the center of my palm because Michigan looks like a mitten and that’s just what we Michiganders do.

8. Where do you live now & what’s the best thing about it?

I live in England now…I love that I can walk to the ocean from my house! (Also I love trains, the close proximity of Europe, clotted cream, sheep, etc etc)

9. Where is the last place you travelled?

I was home (Michigan & Florida) for 4 weeks this summer which was lovely. Other than that I’ve just been bee-bopping around England.

10. Where are you heading to next?

I’m currently working a very full-on job in a hospital with a long commute, so big travel plans til January seem off the table 🙁 However I am going home for Christmas so YAY!

11. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Asia. Specifically, India, bc you know yoga and chicken tikka masala etc. Just kidding (kinda).  I would also love to spend time in an Ashram and see Mysore, where Ashtanga yoga was founded, but I’m holding off on that until my good friend from India gets married…I hear it will be a “small” wedding of 500 and last an entire week…
