As you’re maybe aware, I’ve slowly been transitioning my wardrobe to include more ethical and sustainable items. The dream is an ethical capsule wardrobe that I can seamlessly take traveling with me. My newest discovery that I have to share with you is the brand Organic Basics. In particular, the Organic Basics silvertech line which has quickly become my new active travel essential (just in time for Everest Base camp next month!).
On my recent trip to New York City, I decided to curate a carry on packing list. In the past, I’ve succumbed to the hectic pre-travel packing rush: Even when I travel carry on only, I would only use about half the items I stuffed in my bag. So, I made the decision to very mindfully choose items that were versatile and sure to be useful. With the help of Encircled, and their multi-way chrysalis cardi design, as well as other travel-friendly designs, traveling carry on only was a treat. I’d love to share my carry on packing list with all of you!
If you’ve been following my instagram, you’ll see that life lately has been cozy, pink, and full of gluten free bagels: I have Ecomama Hotel Amsterdam to thank for that! With my spike in traveling recently, and also some reflections after working in the refugee camps, I’ve decided to honestly invest in making more ethical, sustainable, and socially responsible decisions with my money when I travel. (You’ll even see that I’ve added a new category in my blog menu: Ethical Travel). Whereas I previously looked for a low price/high design ratio in travel accommodation, I’m now adding sustainability into the mix.
In Ljubljana, we spent the night behind bars, locked into the cell of a political prisoner.
As the sun sank, there was no view of the night sky, but rather just the navy-painted ceiling and my imagination. In the darkness, I could hear the distant clangs of other barred doors locking. Hours later, through one small square window chiseled in a meter of stone, the sun rose.
I might as well hibernate for the rest of my life because I’ve already achieved my ultimate goal – I recently got to sustainably swim with manatees in Florida. I’ve gone to Florida almost every year since I was born (to visit my grandparents), so the opportunity to sustainably swim with manatees in Florida has been a long time coming!
